Founded in 1928, National Taiwan University (NTU) is a comprehensive research-oriented public university located in Taipei City, Taiwan Province, China. It is the most famous comprehensive research university in Taiwan and is known as the “first university in Taiwan”. It is also a university with a high academic reputation in the world, and its history can be traced back to the Taiwan Hospital established in 1895. Taiwan University is a member of famous university alliances such as the Pacific Rim University Alliance, the Global University Advanced Research Institute Alliance, the East Asian Research University Association, and the Pine Alliance. National Taiwan University currently has 11 colleges and 3 professional colleges, a total of 56 departments, 112 research institutes, and 18 master and doctoral programs. There are also 4 international, 6 national, and 51 university-level research centers, making it the largest comprehensive university in Taiwan.
The predecessor of Taiwan University was the "Taipei Imperial University" established during the Japanese colonial rule. It was one of the nine imperial universities established by Japan at that time. In 1945, after Taiwan's recovery, it was renamed National Taiwan University. In 1949, the Kuomintang government moved to Taiwan, and National Taiwan University replaced the Central University, which had not yet resumed school in Taiwan at that time, and became the university with the largest funding by the education authority in Taiwan. Since its restructuring, National Taiwan University has become known as a liberal scholar represented by President Fu Sinian. Its professors, students, and alumni have had an important influence on the development of contemporary Taiwan’s history, including the Wolfe Prize in Chemistry Winner Weng Qihui and the Wolfe Prize in Agriculture. Yang Xiangfa, the first Asian president of the University of California at Berkeley, Tian Changlin, the former leader of Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou, the poet Yu Guangzhong, and the writer Li Ao.

About Undergraduate:
NTU offers more than 280 degree courses, including more than 90 dual degree courses, divided into three levels: bachelor, master and doctoral degrees. There are more than 800 English courses per academic year. In addition, a large number of open online courses (MOOCs) are also readily available. There are 51 courses on Coursera, and more than 2,700 lectures and more than 180 courses on NTU OpenCourseWare.
