The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), founded in London, England in 1895, is a public research university. It is a member of the University of London Union, the Russell University Group, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and the Association of European Universities. LSE usually It is considered to be part of the "Golden Triangle" of universities in South East England, and is known as a prestigious school in the Golden Triangle and a G5 super elite university. LSE is also part of CIVICA-European University of Social Sciences, a network of eight European universities focused on social science research. In the 2014 Excellent Research Framework, the school has the highest proportion of world-leading research among all the research submitted by non-professional universities in the UK.
LSE was founded in 1895 by Fabian Society members Sidney Webb, Beatrice Webb, Graham Wallas and George Bernard Shaw. It joined the University of London in 1900 and opened its first degree program in 1901 under the auspices of the university. The London School of Economics and Political Science began to award degrees in its own name in 2008. [8] Prior to this, it awarded degrees from the University of London. The motto of this university is "Rerum cognoscere causas", which means in Latin; "know the cause of things".
LSE is located in Westminster in central London, close to the border of Covent Garden and Holborn. This area was historically known as Clare's Market. LSE has more than 11,000 students, of which less than 70% are from outside the UK, and 3,300 faculty and staff. Its revenue in 2019/20 was 415.1 million pounds, of which 31.8 million pounds came from research grants. The student body of the London School of Economics and Political Science comes from 155 countries, and the proportion of international students in the school ranks second (70%) among all universities in the world. Despite its name, the school is organized into 25 academic departments and research institutes that conduct teaching and research in a range of pure social sciences and applied social sciences.

The London School of Economics and Political Science focuses on social science research and enjoys an excellent reputation in the political and business world. LSE alumni and faculty members include 55 former or current heads of state or government and 18 Nobel Prize winners. As of 2017, 27% (or 13 of 49) of all Nobel Prizes in Economics have been awarded or jointly awarded to alumni, current employees or former employees of London Political Economy, so they account for 16% of all Nobel Prizes in Economics. % (13 out of 79) Nobel Memorial Prize winners. Alumni and faculty members of the London School of Economics and Political Science have also won 3 Nobel Peace Prizes and 2 Nobel Prizes in Literature. As of 2016, 55 heads of state or government, 31 members of the British House of Commons and 42 members of the House of Lords have been born among the alumni. According to the REF 2014 official ranking of British universities, LSE has the highest proportion of world-leading research results in the UK. The Wealth-X and UBS joint survey report on the global wealthy published in the same year shows that among all European universities, LSE has trained the most billionaires. For millionaires[9], the average starting salary of their graduates is also the highest in the UK.
According to the QS World University Professional Rankings, LSE ranks second in the world in the field of social sciences and management for eight consecutive years (2013-2020), second only to Harvard University; the school offers 20 majors, political science, economics, and finance Eleven disciplines, including science, journalism and communication, public policy, and geography, are all included in the top five in the world by QS. The LSE Department of Economics ranks first in Europe and fourth in the world in the authoritative Tilburg University Economics Rankings (2015-2019) in the academic world. According to the 2011-2016 Shanghairanking's world-class discipline rankings, LSE has ranked first in Europe for six consecutive years in the field of social sciences. In 2021, LSE ranks 27th in the world in the Times Higher Education World University and 49th in the QS Global World Ranking.
