University of California, San Diego (UCSD or UC San Diego) is a public land-grant research university in San Diego, California. Located in the coastal town of San Diego near La Jolla in northern San Diego, California, La Jolla is bordered by the La Jolla Coast, Torrey Pines, and College City communities. Affiliated to the University of California system known as the "Public University Model", it is a research university and a member of the Pacific Rim University Alliance, the International Public University Forum and the American University Association.

The school was formally established in 1960. Its predecessor was the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, which was built in 1903. It is the southernmost one of the ten campuses of the University of California. The University of California, San Diego is located on the main campus and consists of 761 buildings, covering an area of 1152 acres, and the nature reserve covers an area of about 889 acres.

It offers more than 200 undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs, enrolling 31,842 undergraduates and 8,631 postgraduates. The university covers an area of 2,178 acres (881 hectares), close to the Pacific coast, and the main campus covers approximately 1,152 acres (466 hectares). The University of California, San Diego is ranked among the best universities in the world in major college and university rankings.

The University of California, San Diego is composed of 5 academic departments (Arts and Humanities, Biological Sciences, Engineering, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences) and seven graduate and professional colleges (Jacobs School of Engineering, Rady School of Management, Scripps Institute of Oceanography, School of Global Policy) and Strategy, School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmacy, and the newly established Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Sciences). The university has seven undergraduate residential colleges (Revelle, John Muir, Thurgood Marshall, Earl Warren, Eleanor Roosevelt, Sixth and Seventh).

The University of California, San Diego received more than 140,000 applications in the fall of 2021, making it the second most applying university in the United States. [18] The University of California San Diego Health Center is the only academic health system in the region. The Lee Eye Institute provides patient care, conducts medical research and educates future health care professionals, the Institute of Genomic Medicine, the Koman Family Clinic, and various rapid care and urgent care clinics throughout San Diego.

Today, the University of California, San Diego has developed into a world-class academic center in many fields such as biology, marine science, earth science, computer science, psychology, political science, and economics. According to data from the National Science Foundation of the United States, the school’s annual scientific research funding is as high as 1.9 billion US dollars, ranking fifth in the United States and first in the University of California system.

The University of California, San Diego is considered one of the country’s public ivy. As of February 2021, the faculty, researchers and alumni of the University of California San Diego have 27 Nobel Prizes, ranking second on the University of California campus, as well as 3 Fields Medal winners and 8 National Medals of Science Winner, 8 MacArthur Prize winners and 3 Pulitzer Prize winners. In addition, among the current faculty and staff, 29 were elected to the National Academy of Engineering, 70 were elected to the National Academy of Sciences, 45 were elected to the Institute of Medicine, and 110 were elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

The school ranks 18th in the 2020 Academic Ranking of World University Rankings and 14th in the United States; 2021 U.S. News World University Rankings 21st; 2020 Natural Index World Rankings 20th; Washington Monthly US University Rankings 9th, and Ranked No. 1 among public universities in the United States for six consecutive years. In addition, UCSD is the second-largest university in the United States for applicants and one of the most competitive universities for graduate admissions.

According to the 2018 QS World University Rankings, the University of California San Diego (also known as the University of California San Diego) is one of the top 20 universities in the United States. It is one of the top 50 universities in the world.

About Undergraduate:

UC San Diego offers 125 undergraduate degrees, and students have the flexibility to graduate with a dual major or design their own special major. Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees at the university are four years in length, and cover five main subject areas: arts and humanities, biological sciences, engineering, social sciences and mathematics and physical sciences.
