200 dollars per year, how to use Uber reimbursement with Amex Platinum card?
Although the annual fee of the Amex Platinum card is as high as $550, the three types of reimbursement of $500 each year (including $200 air reimbursement + $200 Uber reimbursement + $100 Saks reimbursement) basically offset the annual fee. Among them, Uber reimbursement can also be used for UberEats takeaway, so that users who do not take a taxi can easily use this reimbursement.
So how do you use Uber reimbursement for Amex Platinum cards, and what are some tips for using it?
Get Uber reimbursement
The Uber reimbursement of the Amex Platinum card is given to Uber Cash (used directly in Uber to deduct the consumption amount), not the statement credit on the credit card (reduction of consumption on the credit card). Bind the Amex Platinum card as a payment method to your Uber account to get Uber Cash every month. If you do not receive Uber Cash after binding, you can try unbinding + rebinding.
After the Amex Platinum card is bound, users automatically receive $15 Uber Cash every month and an additional $20 Uber Cash in December each year, totaling one year ($15x12+$20)=$200. In contrast, the air reimbursement for Amex Platinum cards is issued at a time of $200 at a time, while the Saks reimbursement is issued at $50 every six months. If there are multiple Amex Platinum cards, you can bind to the same account, and the Uber Cash of each card will be merged into that Uber account.
In the first few months that Amex just launched Uber reimbursement, I always thought it could be used cumulatively, and I didn’t find it until one day when I opened the Uber app. Uber Cash will be issued on the 1st of each month and will be cleared on the last day of the month. It cannot be used for the following month. Fortunately, the amount of this benefit is not high, even if you forget to use it for a certain month, it will not matter. The author does not recommend using Uber or UberEats specifically, because the consumer demand created by the bank will not pay off.
In theory, Uber Cash will no longer be refreshed after turning off the Amex Platinum card, but many users can continue to use this benefit after the level, which may be a small bug.
Reimbursement with Uber
As mentioned above, Uber Cash can be used not only for taxi rides, but also for UberEats food delivery. For the author and many other users with cars, there is no great demand for Uber's taxi service, and UberEats is more often used to max out this benefit. When using Uber to take a taxi or order food, Uber Cash will default to the payment method. If Uber Cash is insufficient, you can pay the remaining amount in any way, not necessarily with the Amex Platinum card.
The Uber Cash of the Amex Platinum card is limited to the main card (that is, the secondary card cannot obtain/use this reimbursement), but you can bind your Amex Platinum card to the Taber Uber account and use this reimbursement to the ta person.
Uber Cash is only available in the United States. In other parts of the world, Amex Platinum can still be used as Uber's payment method without foreign handling fees.
